Stanton Bridge reopened after shooting

Update: The Stanton Bridge has reopened.

EL PASO, Texas -- The Stanton Bridge was closed just after 4:00 pm after a shooting at the foot of the bridge sent one person to the hospital.

A spokesperson for the police department said the bridge would remain closed for at least another 4-6 hours while police continue their investigation.

We now know that the shooting started with an assault. A security guard at the bridge intervened in that assault.

"During that time the security guard did fire at least one shot and did strike one individual," said El Paso Detective Judy Oviedo.

That person was transferred to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

EPPD said in an initial statement that the individual sustained life-threatening injuries.

No other information has been released this is an ongoing investigation.
