Drunk driving blamed in east El Paso crash that killed 1, hurt other

UPDATE, Feb. 8: El Paso police said Monday that drunken driving was the cause of a single-car crash over the weekend that killed a passenger and left the driver hospitalized.

Police identified the deceased as 26–year-old Angel Sanchez of El Paso, while they said 25–year-old Geena Quintana of El Paso was hospitalized in serious condition.

Investigators said charges will be filed against Quintana after the BMW she was driving left the roadway and struck a metal utility pole in the 11500 block of Montana Avenue.

Sanchez was the 7th traffic death of this year, compared to 12 at this same time a year ago.

ORIGINAL REPORT, Feb. 7: EL PASO, Texas -- One person was killed in a single-car crash overnight at an east El Paso intersection.

Police summoned traffic investigators to the deadly crash site at Lee Boulevard and Montana Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Officers indicated a person inside the vehicle died on scene; no identity was given.

Also, no information was immediately available as to what led up to the crash.
