UPDATE: El Paso police confirmed a passenger died and a driver was seriously injured when the car they were traveling in went into the median on Loop 375 early Sunday and overturned.

The deceased crash victim was identified as 33-year old Gabriel Mars of El Paso. Police said Mars was ejected from the car during the crash and died at the scene.

Meanwhile, 33-year old Crystal Cisneros of El Paso was hospitalized with a head injury.

Police indicated they were awaiting the results of a blood test on Cisneros, suggesting that intoxication was suspected in causing the crash.

The stretch of Loop 375 where the crash happened was closed for hours as investigators examined the scene and then cleared the wreckage.

Mars’ death was El Paso’s 28th traffic fatality of the year, compared with 30 at this time last year.
