Police say speed caused deadly crash in northeast El Paso

EL PASO, Texas -- A 32-year-old motorist was killed Friday morning in a one-car crash in northeast El Paso that police blamed on speeding.

It happened in the 11500 block of McCombs and Gateway South about 5:30 a.m.

Police said Isaiah Arenas lost control of his car and it rolled off the roadway, ejecting him from the vehicle.

Authorities initially said the victim was critically injured, but first-responders later indicated that the motorist had died; aside from the driver, there was no one else in the wrecked vehicle.

Investigators indicated speed likely triggered the crash and added that Arenas' failure to wear a seat belt resulted in him being ejected. He was the 44th traffic fatality so far this year in El Paso.

The deadly crash closed all north and southbound lanes of McCombs for much of the morning hours. Current El Paso traffic conditions are available anytime by visiting kvia.com/traffic.
