2 motorcyclists seriously hurt in weekend El Paso crashes

UPDATE, Sept. 12: El Paso police said Sunday that two motorcyclists were seriously hurt in weekend traffic crashes.

Hours after a Saturday crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist at Gateway Boulevard East and N. Copia Street in south-central El Paso (details below in initial report), another motorcycle crash happened in the 9800 block of Gateway South in northeast El Paso.

In that 8 p.m. crash, investigators said a 22-year-old El Paso man was speeding on his motorcycle when he struck a curb on an on-ramp to U.S. 54 South; he was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in a rock embankment.

Authorities said the victim remained hospitalized Sunday in serious but stable condition.

ORIGINAL REPORT, Sept. 11: EL PASO, Texas -- A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash late Saturday afternoon in south central El Paso.

It happened about 4 p.m. at Gateway Boulevard East and N. Copia Street.

The motorcycle appeared to be the only vehicle involved in the crash, having jumped a curb in a construction area and running into a rock barrier and a traffic sign.

The injured motorcyclist was rushed to University Medical Center in serious condition.

The cause of the crash and other details weren't immediately released by police.
