Motorcyclist severely hurt in northeast El Paso crash has died

UPDATE, Nov. 15: A motorcyclist severely injured in a northeast El Paso crash last week has died at University Medical Center Hospital from those injuries, police said Monday.

Authorities identified the victim as Ruben Escobedo, 38, of northeast El Paso.

Investigators said Escobedo's motorcycle rear-ended a car along U.S. 54 north at milepost 27, tossing him from the bike and leading to the fatal injuries he suffered.

Escobedo becomes the 60th traffic death of the year, compared to 64 a year ago at this time.

ORIGINAL REPORT, Nov. 12: EL PASO, Texas -- An overnight crash in northeast El Paso left a motorcyclist hospitalized in serious condition.

Police summoned traffic investigators around 2 a.m. Friday to the collision scene along U.S. 54 and Hondo Pass.

Authorities didn't indicate if any other vehicles were involved aside from the motorcycle.

The victim was transported by ambulance to an El Paso hospital suffering from serious injuries in the wreck.

There was no immediate word on a cause for that crash.
