1 dead, 2 seriously hurt in El Paso Christmas Eve traffic crashes
EL PASO, Texas — A pair of Christmas Eve traffic crashes in El Paso left one person dead and two others seriously injured.
A single-vehicle rollover at Gateway East and Burgundy on Friday night was responsible for the death of a Horizon City man, police confirmed. Investigators said the SUV veered off the road, struck a curb and overturned - ejecting the driver into a desert area.
Police on Saturday identified the victim as 32-year-old Rayas Rodolfo and said he died shortly after being taken to a hospital. His death was the 74th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 68 a year ago at this time.
A separate collision involving a motorcycle and a car on Airway near Viscount on Friday night left two people hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to first responders.
Police on Saturday identified the motorcycle driver and a passenger, 25-year-old Malachi Barker and 34-year-old David Galvan, as the two victims hospitalized; both are northeast El Paso residents and suffered head injuries in the crash.
Investigators said Barker was suspected of being intoxicated when his motorcycle jumped a curb, went over a sidewalk into a parking lot - where it struck a car exiting the parking lot.
