ABC-7 First Alert: Freezing Overnight

Good evening and happy Saturday. We are currently under a First Alert because of the very chilly night we are going to have. Many of us will experience a few hours with freezing temperatures overnight. El Paso and areas along the International border are under a freeze warning until 9 AM tomorrow morning.

What do you need to do? Protect the three P's! First are your pipes. If you haven't already, wrap insulation around exposed pipes- especially outdoor ones to keep them from freezing. For any indoor pipes, like the ones under your sink, you can open the cabinets so the pipes have access to warmer air which will also help out. Lastly, you'll want to turn your outdoor pipes on just to a drip to prevent them from freezing.

Next are your plants. Wrap any permanent outdoor but fragile plants with sheets to keep them from freezing. If you can, move others indoors. Finally are your pets! If you wouldn't want to be outside in freezing temps, neither would they. Bring them inside!

For the remainder of the week, pleasant and warm weather will return. It appears like we will have another 70 degree day midweek. However, do not act like we won't get more cold weather days in the region. Perhaps, take this week to protect your three P's so you don't have to do it when it's already super cold. Enjoy!
