How to watch Thursday’s town hall with Nancy Pelosi
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will participate in a CNN town hall on Thursday, a day after the first House Judiciary Committee impeachment hearing saw eight hours of debate over whether President Donald Trump’s conduct with Ukraine provided evidence of impeachable offenses.
Pelosi has kept her cards close on impeachment, even as the House plows ahead on the inquiry she first announced in September. When asked by CNN on Tuesday night if she had made a decision on impeachment, she said, “No, we haven’t made it.”
At a crucial juncture in the impeachment proceedings, and with the country bitterly divided, the speaker has sought to project an image of a House Democratic majority that is reluctant to impeach Trump. And even as she’s green-lighted every key decision of the fast-moving probe in the House, she is trying to balance the desire to wrap up the proceedings quickly without getting ahead of vulnerable Democrats still nervous about impeachment.
