Harris met with jeers from pro-Trump demonstrators on El Paso border trip

EL PASO, Texas -- Even before Vice President Kamala Harris's plane landed in El Paso on Friday morning, protesters had already started to gather outside the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's central processing center that Harris was slated to visit.

Many of the pro-Trump demonstrators in the gathering crowd blew whistles, chanted and jeered as they protested the vice president's trip to El Paso to examine border conditions and discuss immigration issues.

Some demonstrators outside the border facility on Hondo Pass in northeast El Paso held signs that read: “Kamala do you hear their screams?” and “Kamala, you know Trump won.”

Among the protesters unhappy with Harris' visit was Anthony Aguero, who questioned why she chose to come to El Paso versus other Texas border communities that some say are facing greater challenges due to the migrant surge.

"I do feel there were other areas she should have taken more note. Areas like Uwalde, Del Rio and McCallan, Texas where you see thousands of migrants coming in through particular locations on a daily basis,” Aguero said.

Elected Republican leaders joined with protesters in faulting Harris for an El Paso trip that they dismissed as little more than a photo session.

“Oh, I’m glad after 100 days being appointed the point-person by the administration to deal with the current crisis at the border that the vice president is finally showing up,” Texas' senior U.S. Sen. John Cornyn told ABC-7 in an interview.

Besides some foul language used at times by demonstrators, the protest remained peaceful throught Harris' short stop at the CBP center.
