EL PASO, Texas -- A motorcyclist was killed in a collision early Sunday morning along Interstate 10, El Paso police said.

The deadly motorcycle crash occurred just before 2:30 a.m. along the eastbound interstate at Copia.

Authorities identified the victim as 27-year-old Jontrell Ash Bernard. Investigators said he was speeding when he lost control and crashed his motorcycle into a center cement barrier along a curve in the highway.

Police indicated Bernard was thrown from his motorcycle, and although wearing a helmet, died at the scene from his injuries.

He was the 60th traffic death of the year in El Paso; there were also 60 traffic fatalities a year ago at this time.
