High winds left thousands without power from Las Cruces to San Elizario

EL PASO, Texas -- Over 4,000 El Paso electric customers were without power at one point Friday evening as high winds featuring gusts of over 60 miles per hour hit the Borderland.

The outages were scatted in clusters from Las Cruces to the north, down through El Paso and then south to San Elizario.

Utility crews worked to restore service to those homes and businesses without electricity, and by 7 p.m. the outages were down to a few hundred

Much of the Borderland was under a High Wind Warning issued by the National Weather Service until midnight.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation also warned of powerful wind gusts and blowing dust along the Interstate 10 corridor.
