Dominion Voting Systems Defamation case against Fox News kicks off in Delaware
WILMINGTON, Delaware--- The Dominion Voting Systems defamation case against Fox News is set to begin Tuesday.
The trial, initially was scheduled to begin with opening statements on Monday, but it was abruptly delayed on Sunday evening. It raised speculation of settlement talks, but ultimately failed to prevent the trial’s open.
Court house officials are taking extra security precautions ahead of the case. A large white tent has gone up behind the Delaware superior court to shield public view of some high-profile figures.
Some of Fox’s senior executives and top on-air talent, are expected to testify in the trial.
A trial would force Fox to answer for its actions in the weeks after the 2020 presidential election and litigate denial about the outcome of the race in general. The case centers on whether Fox defamed Dominion when anchors and reporters claimed the company's voting machines somehow switched votes for Former President Donald Trump and gave them to Joe Biden. Dominion says those statements hurt its business.
The company is suing Fox News for $1.6 billion.
