Border Patrol Nabs Convicted Sex Offender Trying To Enter U.S.

Border Patrol agents caught a convicted sex offender trying to cross into the U.S. near the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.

U.S. Border Patrol Agents found the man, 45-year-old Luis Rene Lemus, crossing illegally into the U.S. one mile east of the Port of Entry.

Authorities said during the identification process, agents found that Lemus, a Cuban national, had a criminal history of child abuse and various sexual offenses, one of which involved a 16-year-old.

According to officials, Lemus also had a prior immigration history of being removed from the country in 2002.

Lemus was charged with illegal re-entry into the U.S. and is currently being held at El Paso County Detention Center.
