ABC-7 StormTrack Weather: Hot and drier weekend with some limited rain chances

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- We are tracking some drier air moving into the Borderland this weekend, bringing mostly dry conditions to the lowlands while temperatures remain well above normal.

Thunderstorm chances will be limited Saturday and Sunday, with the best chances mainly over the mountains and areas west of the Rio Grande Valley.

For El Paso, Las Cruces and surrounding lowland communities, the main story this weekend will be the heat. Temperatures remaining unusually warm, and some lowland locations could see their last triple-digit readings of the year.

By Monday, moisture begins returning to the region as the upper-level high shifts east. Rain and thunderstorm chances will increase across much of the Borderland, with the highest chances initially favoring the mountains and western areas.

Looking ahead to Wednesday and beyond, moisture levels are expected to increase significantly with additional moisture possibly leading to higher rainfall rates and an increasing risk of heavy rain and flooding from Wednesday through next weekend.
