‘Mexicles’ gang members arrested after at least 9 killed in Juarez vehicle fires

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico - A "night of terror" blamed on the 'Mexicles' drug gang left at least 9 dead and others wounded as numerous vehicles were set afire and/or sprayed with bullets late Tuesday and early Wednesday, Mexican media outlets reported.

Four 'Mexicles' gang members were arrested by municipal police for their roles in the chaos, according to El Mexicano and El Diario, which published their arrest photos.

In all, authorities told El Diario and El Mexicano that 16 vehicles in different parts of Juárez were set ablaze over a 10-hour period. The burned vehicles included cars, trucks and city buses - and some were also riddled with bullets.

Norte Digital reported that the death toll reached nine from that 10-hour span of violence. El Diario indicated nine others were hospitalized with first and second-degree burns.

In a Facebook post, Juárez Mayor Armando Cabada said the attacks were an attempt at revenge by the gang for a crackdown by authorities at a Juárez prison facility.

Mexican authorities said they were on alert for the potential of more gang violence.
