Police: Illinois man says he buried mother, sister in yard
LYONS, Ill. (AP) — Authorities plan to excavate a suburban Chicago backyard this weekend after one of two adult brothers found living in deplorable conditions in a home told officers he had buried their mother and sister’s bodies behind the home years ago after they died. Lyons Police Chief Thomas Herion says after survey work Friday of the backyard, excavation work will begin Saturday morning. Officers were called Thursday to conduct a wellness check the two-story home, which lacks running water and working toilets. Herion says one of the brothers told officers their mother had died in 2015 and their sister died in 2019, and after their deaths he had buried them in their backyard.
