King Charles III formally proclaimed King
(CNN) -Charles the third has been formally proclaimed as the United Kingdom’s new monarch.
It comes during the accession council ceremony, taking place in London's St. James's palace on Saturday.
He ascended to the throne Thursday after Queen Elizabeth the second’s death.
The ceremony was televised for the first time in history.
The proclamation was followed by the audience's exclamation of "God Save the King."
Queen Elizabeth the second died Thursday at the age of 96.
She was the longest-reigning monarch.
Her death ended a seven-decade reign.
