Texans with PTSD or cancer can now use medical marijuana under new law
EL PASO, Texas — Starting Wednesday, more Texans will now be eligible for low-THC after a new law taking effect extends the state’s medicinal marijuana program to more patients.
In 2015, the state started the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas that is run by the Department of Public Safety. The registry keeps track of licensed physicians that can prescribe low-THC to people with certain medical conditions.
Before Wednesday, the program was limited to people with certain medical conditions, like incurable neurodegenerative diseases and terminal cancer.
The law going into effect is HB 1535, which will extend the program to people with post traumatic stress disorder and cancer patients in all stages.
