Water Main Break Backs Up West Side Traffic

EL PASO — Amassive water main break slowed down traffic for a few hours in West El Paso Wednesday. Repair crews reportedthousands of gallons of water rushed downN.Mesa, close to where it intersects with Pitt.

Water technicians estimated that the water rupture was caused by the advanced age of the water line, which measures 24 inches in diameter.

Five lanes of traffic were reduced to one lane and that caused a big backup for motorists.

“I’m really upset, because this is keeping me from attending class,” said one woman, a college student. The traffic tieup also prevented delays in deliveries to various businesses in the area.

Crews turned off the water supply for about two hours after as they made repairs the line.///
