Students Honor Retired ROTC Instructor

He’s a leader and a mentor for many, and that’s why a retired ROTC instructor received a special honor this weekend.

Retired Major Joe Cancellare was honored with a picnic. He was the ROTC instructor at Bowie High School for 16 years.

A group of students organized the picnic; they said he inspired them and helped their families. It’s a show of gratitude that has the retired major reminding people of how important it is to serve as a role model for our youth.

“The mission of ROTC is to motivate young people to be better citizens,” said Cancellare. He added good guidance of young teens is something that will last a lifetime.
