Socorro ISD adding more cameras to its campuses
The Socorro Independent School District is making a substantial security investment with hundreds of new security cameras to keep an eye on students and campuses across the district.
The effort to improve and expand the district’s security system is in it’s first month of construction with its completition expected by the summer.
There will be a total of more than 500 security cameras installed district-wide.
Several schools, like America’s high school, already have some security cameras in place.
The goal is to have at least 10 cameras installed at each of SISD’s 40 other campuses and 20 at each high school.
Another part of the security upgrades will have every camera routed to a central monitoring room under construction at the district’s police headquarters.
The current security monitoring setup only allows the cameras for two campuses to be seen at a time, but the new security monitoring room will have 36 forty-two inch screens with two district police officers monitoring around the clock.
The entire security technology project has been in the works for two years and has run the district about $1.2 million to implement. SISD Police expect all construction and installation to be complete by April.
