May 2014 Story: EPCC seeks input on new master plan

El Paso Community College is in the process of creating a “master plan” in order to determine out what can be fixed and improved across the college’s campuses.

The idea is to lay out a clear set of goals and objectives for EPCC to work on for the next decade or so. The administration is working with national architectural firm SmithGroup and some local firms. To help develop the list, EPCC is holding a series of meetings and community sessions.

The master planning team is in town through Friday, and will be doing outreach at all EPCC campuses. One of their goals is to find out from students, staff and the community what needs to be done to make EPCC better for the future.

“It will tell us what we need to fix first, whether we need to build additional classroom space on a given campus given projected increases in enrollment,” said Ernst Roberts, vice president of administration and financial operations. “It will tell us what roofs we need to fix.”

The planning process is expected to take about 10 months. Once completed, the master plan will also be used to determine what’s needed at the newest EPCC campus that will be built entirely on Ft. Bliss.
