Man found dead in arroyo near UTEP

Campus police are investigating the death of man whose body was found in an arroyo near the University of Texas at El Paso, though they don’t expect foul play.

El Paso police and UTEP police responded to the 2300 block of Oregon Street shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday after a passerby spotted a man lying motionless in the arroyo next to Miner Village, a student housing complex.

The man’s body was partially covered by blanket, and was surrounded by empty cans of soup.

Police believe the unidentified man was homeless, but have not confirmed that. It is also unclear whether hot temperatures led to the man’s death.

In a tweet, the El Paso Police Department said, “death does not appear to be suspicious in nature” and that, “the investigation will be handled by UTEP PD. EPPD assisted.
