209 pounds of marijuana seized at local port of entry

Two-hundred and nine pounds of marijuana were confiscated at the Santa Teresa port of entry Tuesday night.

Customs and Border Protection officers selected the vehicle for a second inspection and found drugs with a street value of over $160,000.

The driver, a Canadian citizen living in Mexico, was arrested and faces charges associated with the failed smuggling attempt.

The seizure was the largest of the five most recent drug busts at the border.

The five busts have resulted in the confiscation of 740 pounds of marijuana.
