lana zak, abcn, w president obama is taking his push for stronger gun control measures to the american people. the president headlined a national televised town hall meeting on guns thursday night outside washington. the white house says the meeting was intended, in part, to garner public support for the president’s recent executive actions on guns. those changes are designed to expand background checks to cover more gun purchases made online and at gun shows … … as well as make it easier for the f-b-i to complete such checks efficiently. a white house spokesman says the president also intended to debunk claims by some republicans that his intent is to take guns away from law-abiding americans. obama has said he believes in and is committed to the constitutional right to bear arms and even compared it to traffic safety. ” “in the same way that we don’ eliminate all traffic accidents, but over the course of 20 years, traffic accidents get lower. there’s still tragedies, there’s still drunk drivers, there’s still people who don’t wear their seatbelts, but over time that violence was reduced and so families are spared. that’s the same thing we can do with gun ownership.” a new poll suggest most americans support president obama’s recent executive actions on guns. the c-n-n o-r-c poll shows 67- percent of those surveyed say they favor the changes the president announced last week. those changes are designed to expand background checks to cover more gun purchases made online and at gun shows … … as well as make it easier for the f-b-i to complete such checks efficiently. but not all the polling news is good. fifty-seven percent of those polled said they don’t believe the executive actions will be effective in reducing gun- related deaths in the u-s. with a little more than a month to go before pope francis’ visit to juarez — the anticipation — and excitement is building. abc-7 confirmed that one of the watch parties for the mass will be
