New closures begin for Border West Expressway construction

Construction for the Border West Expressway is gaining momentum with new closures and detours for drivers and residents.

Starting Monday afternoon, the westbound Paisano Drive entrance ramp from Racetrack Drive will close. A marquee sign near the on-ramp said it will be closed until Spring 2017.

There will be no access to Paisano Dr. eastbound from Racetrack Dr.

All traffic in the area will need to use Sunland Park to access Paisano Dr. and Interstate 10.

Mandra Ryan, spokeswoman for the Border West Expressway project, said the closure is necessary to begin building retaining walls and bridges.

Other traffic changes to keep in mind:

McNutt Road is closed eastbound and westbound from the New Mexico State line to Paisano Dr.

When complete, the BWE is expected to provide an alternate route for I-10.

The BWE will stretch approximately 7.4 miles from Racetrack Drive near Doniphan Road and New Mexico 273 East to U.S. 54, to one mile east of Park Street.
