Former special ed teacher arrested for sex abuse

A former special education teacher wanted on sex abuse charges has been arrested.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to Fugitive Warrants and Apprehension Unit arrested 45-year-old Santiago Chavez Friday in south El Paso.

Chavez was arrested at a business located at the 500 block of N. Kansas.

He was then booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on two counts of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child.

Chavez’ total bond for the charges is $500,000.

He was wanted for two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child. Deputies say he is a special education teacher at Fabens Elementary School. He is currently on administrative leave.
