owners th trainers here. since we’re not allowed to run there will be no purses paid out on a daily basis” linder says for the next 14 days all horses will be on lock down. but if another horse comes up positive for the virus–that 14 days will start over. in the mean time, 5 barns are under quarantine—but all 1,500 horses are being checked up on daily standup “this is just one of the barn behind 101.5, they’ll then have to get a sampling from that horse and take it in for testing” “blo samples and nasal swabs because this is a virus that shows its self in mucus and that’s how it spreads” katie goet says those samples are being sent to albuquerque. while humans can’t catch ehv-1, you can unknowingly spread it if you come in contact with it. the disease is so contagious for the animals that state police officers are blocking this barn across the street warning the owners not to bring their horses anywhere near the racetrack “we’re trying to make sure it remains to just the handful of horses that have been confirmed with the virus” officials say this is an effort to prevent not only the equine virus, but a nationwide problem. while races are on hold–horses can still train on the track. there are two different portions: horses under quarantine and horses that are not. the casino remains open to all. friends and family gathered at the newman center near nmsu to remember former
