ABC-7 Listens: No slides at Mundy Park

but at mundy park in el paso’s sunset heights neighborhood — the playground is virtually closed off. i wanted to find out what’s going on. the story is new on good morning el paso and a story yu’ll see only on abc-7: nats: it’s a great day to play outside — and these kids are enjoying the new playground at john karr park in sunset heights. nats: a vastly different view at nearby mundy park. no kids — quiet and empty. a closer look shows why. all the slides are blocked! turns out — they’ve been barricaded for a while. 23 we noticed in late fall that we had some cracks that had developed in the slides. 28 best thing for safety reasons, was to block the entrance to the slides and start looking for some replacement components. 42 steve lunsford — the maintenance superintendent for the city’s parks department — said it isn’t unusual considering the equipment is 25 years old. what is unusual — is the length of the closure. 1.15 in this particular case, it took some time working with the vendor to find some replacement slides that they are still being manufactured or they have in stock. 1.23 the city hopes to have the parts installed in the next 6-8 weeks. just in time for spring break. and steve lunsford — the parks superintendent — told me, they also hope to have the sand replaced with a different surface at the same time. so, plenty of good news for kids who use the park. to report damage to park equipment, call 212-0092 or 212-8017.
