16-year-old student accused of making online threat against Chapin High in custody
Police are investigating a threat made on social media against students at Chapin High School on Wednesday afternoon. EPPD said a 16-year-old male is in custody and charges are pending.
In a Facebook post, the boy allegedly wrote “im going to shoot up chapin high school tomorrow.”
Police said the boy is being referred to the Juvenile Probation Department on multiple charges related to this incident.Investigators have indicated that they do not believe a threat exists at this time to the school.
An El Paso Independent School District spokesman said the district is aware of the threat and both El Paso police and the district police are investigating the incident.
“We will have additional law enforcement presence at Chapin High School tomorrow to help alleviate concerns from students and parents,” EPISD spokesman Gustavo Reveles said in statement.
Police ask citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities at or around schools.
The student’s father also contacted ABC-7 Wednesday evening saying his son’s Facebook account had been hacked, and that he was working with authorities to get the situation sorted out.
