UDPATE: Man killed in crash earlier this month identified

UPDATE: A 29-year old woman is facing charges for Intoxication Manslaughter after police said she caused a four car crash earlier this month, killing one man.

This happened January 8 on Interstate 10 West near Lomaland.

Police said Phylicia Pierson crashed her Hyundai Santa Fe into Volkswagen Golf, causing a chain reaction. The driver of the Golf, 26-year-old Morgan Engman died January 11 as a result of his injuries.

Pierson is now facing Intoxication Manslaughter charges. Her bond as been set at $1,000,000.

ORIGINAL: Police arrested a 29-year-old woman they said caused a four-vehicle crash that left one man with life-threatening injuries.

It happened at 11:19 p.m. Friday on Interstate 10 West near Lomaland Drive.

El Paso Police said the woman was driving a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe when she crashed into the back of a 2006 Volkswagen Golf, setting off a chain reaction.

Special Traffic Investigators were called when it was discovered that the 26-year-old driver of the Golf sustained life-threatening injuries.

Police said that based on observations that the 29-year-old woman might be intoxicated, a DWI Task Force officer was called.

Police said a bag of marijuana was found in the woman’s car.

An investigation showed the started when a2012 Chrysler 300 slowed down on I-10 due to a different crash. The driver of a BMW also slowed behind the Chrysler as did the driver of the Volkswagen.

The driver of the Santa Fe failed to slow down and crashed into the Volkswagen, causing the chain reaction.

The driver of the Volkswagen, along with his 17-year-old passenger, were taken to Del Sol Medical Center. The passenger was taken with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Santa Fe was also taken to Del Sol to be treated and was released. She was then arrested and charged with intoxication assault and possession of marijuana under 2 ounces.

Identities are being withheld due to the ongoing investigation.
