Weekend marks Villas De Salvarcar massacre 6year anniversary
the shooting rampage left 15 people dead in 2010 after gunman sprayed bullets into a neighborhood party. the victims ages ranged from 15 to 20 years old. today the home where the killing happened is a memorial and a reminder of the violence the city endured. abc-7’s jerry najera is live with the story … evan, josie: some call this massacre the worst loss of innocent life from cartel battles that took place in juarez. this is a picture of the home now you can see children have covered the walls with their handprints. on january 3oth 2010 family and friends -in a working class neighborhood were celebrating a teens birthday. a little after midnight armed gunman in two trucks blocked off the street and opened fire at three homes. the last house the gunman entered- is where residents were celebrating that special day and a majority of the people were killed. the walls covered in blood and bullets. the youngest victim was a 15-year-old boy. “it must have been scary being in a party celebrating something and then having people come into you house and just shooting at everybody” juarez residents were shocked not even at home people can be at peace-said this woman abc-7 interviewed in 2010. in the following days hundreds of people visited the home calling the acts of murder a travesty. “i just pray to god they give us our juarez back” message echoed by many after the murders. 7 men were arrested in connection with the shooting. those men were said to be part of local drug cartels. this evening friends and family of the victims held a memorial in honor in the victims evan josie.
