NMSU regents: No tuition increase, big budget cuts

and i’m rick cabrera. the budget crunch at new mexico state university forced regents to choose from several unattractive options. and today they did. abc-7’s jamie warren is live with details from our new mexico mobile newsroom. jamie? rick and estela, no tuition increase for students here at nmsu next year. but officials are now searching for ways to slash 10.6 million from the budget. in fact, a letter signed by nmsu president garrey carruthers just sent says all employees at nmsu face possible cuts starting in july administrators who earn over one hundred thousand a year will see a small decrease in salary. retiree health coverage might be discontinued for new hires, along with sick leave payout. it’s still unclear what programs for students will be cut but some students say they’ve already felt the brunt of it kari mitchell, nmsu regent 20:55;27 that we have opportunity within our university to find revenue sources with out putting it on the back of our students grad student social work erika de la pina 20:20:41 i know they’re cutting the budget for the counseling services and i know a lot of people use the gym as well and stuff like that regents did vote a slight increase for student meal plans and parking permits as well jamie warren, nmmn, abc-7 another live look at the city tonight from the abc-seven mountain cam. you can
