Both Las Cruces teams fall short in state championship game
After trailing by two points at the half, the Las Cruces Bulldawgs were unable to bring home a state title. The Bulldawgs took a one point lead briefly in the 3rd quarter, but it was quickly taken away the next posession by the Hawks, and they never looked back.
Albuquerque’s Volcano Vista High School topped the Bulldawgs 47-39, when the final buzzer went off in the 6A state title game. But Head Coach Benjamin William still is proud of his squad.
“I love them, I am proud of them and they did a hell of a job this year,” Benjamin said. “For us to make it to the last game of the season and play in the championship game, and to go 27-5 is an accomplishment. This one game isn’t their whole season.”
While in 2A, Mesilla Valley Christian was overpowered by Lordsburg as they lost 64-38. The Sonblazers only scored 11 points in the first half and couldn’t get anything to fall on the offensive side of the ball, as their platoff push comes to an end.
But still a fantastic season when you consider Mesilla Valley Christian topped an unbeaten team to make it to this point in the playoffs, and finishing the year with less than 10 losses (23-9).
