ComSAR crews rescue injured hiker in Tom Mays Park

Combined Search and Rescue crews rescued an injured hiker in Tom Mays Park.

The El Paso Fire Department was called to the Franklin Mountain State Park just before 6 p.m. Sunday, when a hiker injured herself. Officials say the 31-year-old woman was hiking on-trail with another person when she injured herself.

The first unit arrived at the scene within minutes of the call and spotted the hiker toward the top of the Aztec Cave Trail. The Combined Search and Rescue team was immediately dispatched to reach the injured hiker. ComSar personnel reached the woman around 6:20 p.m.

After medical treatment was given to the hiker, the ComSar team brought the woman down in a rescue basket. The patient and the team were safely off the mountain around 7:30 p.m.

A total of seven units and 14 personnel from the El Paso Fire Department, El Paso Police and Texas Parks and Wildlife responded to this incident. The El Paso Fire Department and Texas Parks and Wildlife would like to remind the public to practice these safety recommendations when planning outdoor hiking/climbing activities.
