NMSU Aggies earn 14 seed in NCAA Tournament and will face Baylor
The field is set for the NCAA Tournament and the NMSU Aggies claimed the 14th seed and will face 3 seed Baylor Friday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
This comes after Ian Baker exploded for 15 points in the second half to lead NMSU in a dramatic 70-60 comeback win against CSU Bakersfield in the WAC title game.
Aggie head coach Paul Weir joins Coach Henson as the only first-year head coach in program history to reach the NCAA Tournament with this win. The Aggies also earned their most victories in program history with the win.
The Aggies arrived at the El Paso International Airport Sunday afternoon, already thinking about their upcoming game with Baylor.
“No question, yeah, we’ve been preparing sine the game ended last night against potential teams we may play, so we’ll have some video downloaded and just get working on them right away” said head coach Paul Weir.
Ian Baker, who was named the most outstanding player during the WAC regular season and WAC Tournament, is confident that the Aggies can pull the upset.
“Yeah, I think that’s one we can get. We have a lot of confidence going into the game,” said Baker, a senior guard. “We are resilient. Man, all we want to do is win. So, I think we’ll do whatever it takes to get a win.”
Last season one 14-seed defeated a 3-seed. Stephen F. Austin managed to cruise past West Virginia in the Round of 64 by a final of 70-56.
