Westside construction, residents contemplate relocation
Two weeks ago, construction crews began working the grounds to make room for the Topgolf facility, but the constant work and future plans have some residents questioning their leases.
“It’s been going on for quiet a while and sometimes it keeps us up,” one resident said when asked about the construction. Another resident says the early morning crews wake her up before 6 a.m.
Topgolf says they will continue working on the project for the next eight to 10 months and are hopeful it will be completed by late fall.
“Eventually there will be extra light back there,” one neighboring resident said, “it wont be as livable here at that point,” since he believes there will be too many disturbances.

“I am proud to welcome Topgolf to our community,” said Mayor Oscar Leeser in a news release. “Its expansion efforts will bolster new economic development opportunities that will strengthen our economic climate. Today’s announcement is another example of how El Paso is open for business.
Topgolf is eligible for a 75% city real and property tax rebate totaling $1.7 million, a 75% city sales tax rebate totaling $3.4 million, and a 100% rebate on certain building and planning fees up to $34,000, city officials said.
Topgolf provides a unique environment that includes a chef-driven food and beverage menu, music, and games. It currently has 29 venues worldwide that serve 13 million guests annually, spurring economic development opportunities in the cities where they reside.
“This entertainment complex will not only improve our overall quality of place, but it will also be a catalyst for growth,” City Manager Tommy Gonzalez said in a news release. “We view this expansion as an economic development milestone that will bring great opportunities.”
Topgolf is expected to break ground in the coming months at the Montecillo development. The company is expected to hire 400 employees.
