Hundreds gather to celebrate 16 year anniversary of Wyler Aerial Tramway reopening

It’s a difficult first step for those who are afraid of heights. But, once you’re on the Wyler Aerial Tramway, you’re four minutes away from one of the best views in the city.

Hundreds gathered on Saturday to celebrate 16 years of the Wyler Aerial Tramway being reopened to the public.

“We’re the only tramway open to the public in the whole state. The closest one would be in Albuquerque and that’s a four hour drive. We have it right here in the middle of the city,” Noy said. “The views from the top are just beautiful.”

The WylerAerial Tramway was originally open to the public from 1960 – 1986. It was then closed down until 2001.

“We have a big party, we have 20 different exhibitors with activities. We have food trucks, we’re going to have live entertainment so just all kinds of fun for everybody,” Noy said.

Kathy Coburn came all the way from Tyler, Texas to check out the view.

“The mountains are so different. The first time I saw them — I just never saw mountains that look like this before, so I really enjoyed looking at the mountains,” Coburn said.

El Pasoan Juan Venegas said it was his first time at the tramway.

“It’s pretty fun. It’s pretty beautiful the view we have of our city. I can see my home from here,” Venegas said.
