BMX race bikes returned
Yesterday ABC-7 brought you the story of how the Desert Downs BMX race track was burglarized.
Someone broke in and took some concession stand goodies and three very expensive bikes.
“I never thought it was going to come back,” said Shelby Watts.
Watts is one of the young girls that got her bike stolen Sunday night.
“I was heartbroken,” Watts said.
Tuesday ABC-7 also heard from an emotional Kane Darby.
“It’s not fun and games when you’re taking things from good kids,” Darby said Tuesday.
Wednesday evening her emotions were different.
“I’m feeling great now that I have my bike back. I feel great, so awesome,” Darby said.
The girls got the news their bikes were found late Tuesday night.
“They might have your bike don’t get too happy but they might,” Watts said she her friend Raven Mallory, whose bike was also stolen.
After police checked the serial numbers, it was their bikes.
“I was so happy. I didn’t know what to do I was just smiling and squealing,” Mallory said.
The bikes were returned with a little damage but the girls will be able to continue to commit to their passion of racing.
“I am very thankful, very grateful,” Darby said.
“It gives me a little inspiration not to take anything for granted, like not every race is guaranteed,” Watts said.
In Tuesday’s story ABC-7 also mentioned Desert Downs had purchased some security cameras but needed help setting them up.
After the story aired an organization contacted Desert Downs officials and they are going to help them out with setting up the cameras.
ABC-7 was told a woman had spotted the bikes in her neighborhood and returned the bikes to their rightful owners.
