UTEP guard Chris Barnes says he is leaving the program
UTEP freshman guard Chris Barnes announced via Twitter Monday that he will be transferring to another program.
Barnes did not reveal what schools he has in mind as a transfer destination.
Barnes posted the following note on Twitter Monday night:
“I would like to thank all of the UTEP coach staff for giving me an opportunity for my freshman year here. But I have decided to move forward and transfer from UTEP. I’ve learned a lot as a player and person. Also, this city has the best fans I’ve ever seen. Y’all supported us through the ups and downs this whole year. I just want to thank you guys also for welcoming me here.”
Barnes saw limited action in his freshman campaign at UTEP, appearing in only 16 contests behind Dominic Artis and Omega Harris. Barnes played a total of just 69 minutes in those 16 games.
He is originally from California and signed in April of last year with the Miners.
UTEP head coach Tim Floyd confirmed Tuesday that Barnes left the team due to a lack of playing time.
“Chris…wanted to play more,” said Floyd. “We wish him well as he pursues more playing time elsewhere.”
