Phoenix Suns point guard Tyler Ulis serves as guest instructor at El Paso basketball camp

NBA Suns point guard Tyler Ulis was a guest instructor at a basketball camp Tuesday at Burges high school. The camp was organized by Southwest Elite. Kids and teens who took part were eager to learn from an NBA player. “I watched him play at Kentucky and I always liked him,” Julian Vasquez said. “When I knew he was going to be here I needed to come to this camp.” Some of the campers look up to Ulis because he’s one of the shortest players in the NBA. Listed at 5-foot-10-inches, Ulis just finished his rookie season with the Suns. Prior to being drafted by the Suns, Ulis played two years at Kentucky University. “I like how he’s short but he can still hang with everyone else,” Vasquez said. “It makes me think that everyone can do it. He proves that.” Ulis can relate to some of the campers and he understands why they see him as a role model. “It’s great to be that guy and be looked up to,” Ulis said. “When I was younger I had a guy I looked up to – Allen Iverson. ” Ulis had a few words of advice for young basketball players who are looking to make it big one day. “Just keep working,” Ulis said. “Stay confident in your game. Everyone has different paths so stay confident in yourself, stay focused and everything will work out.”
