County to partner with TxDOT to create development plan for Fabens Airport
The County of El Paso has partnered up with TxDOT to come up with a plan to best utilize the Fabens Airport.
The airport is fairly small, with only one hangar. It’s mostly for private aviation use, and crop-dusting services.
TxDOT will pay $90,000 and the county will pay $10,000 to come up with the business and development plan for the airport.
“It just gives us a roadmap to be able to begin to strategically invest onto that site, and that’s something that we have not done in the past,” county judge Ruben Vogt said.
In 2016, the County entered into a partnership with UTEP so students could use the facility to conduct research and take classes.
Vogt said the partnership with TxDOT will not impede with the County’s relationship with UTEP.
“Knowing that we have this collaboration with UTEP, could the county invest in something that would help propel UTEP’s efforts as well? It’s really just looking at the different combinations of items that would help ensure that the county is doing all it can to make our Fabens Airport all it can possibly be,” Vogt said.
Vogt added it will take over a year to come up with the business development plan.
