Police: Speed was factor in East Side deadly crash

El Paso police said speed was the factor in a deadly East Side crash Friday night.

Special Traffic Investigators said a 16-year-old male, driving a Chevy Camaro heading south on Zaragoza Road, was moving from the left lane to the right and back again when it collided with a Nissan Armada that entered Zaragoza Road, northbound from a parking lot.

The driver of the Nissan, Manuel Garcia, 56, of Anthony New Mexico, later died at the hospital.

The front passenger of the Nissan, 86-year-old Pedro Rosas-Bustamante, of Mexico, died at the hospital Monday morning.

The impact sent the 16-year-old driver of the Camaro and his 14-year-old passenger to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Special Traffic Investigators say the Camaro was speeding and that was a contributing factor in the fatal collision. The investigation is still ongoing.
