ORIGINAL REPORT: EL PASO, Texas -- Four seats are up for grabs on both the El Paso Independent School District Board of Trustees and the Socorro Independent School District Board of Trustees in a May 1 election.

Trustees play an important role in school districts. They set goals for student outcomes, determine funding priorities, approve the annual operating budget, set property taxes and oversee the superintendent, who they hire and fire.

Which seats are up for election?

Trustees serve a four-year term.

In EPISD, the District 1, 3, 4 and 5 seats are up for election.

In SISD, the District 2, 3, 4 and 5 seats are up.

  • May 1: Election Day

How to cast your ballot

First, go here to make sure you’re registered. The deadline to register to vote in this election has passed.

Election Day polling sites, found here, are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

You can vote at any polling site in the county on Election Day.

Remember to bring a photo ID when you go vote, such as a Texas driver’s license, Texas personal identification card or U.S. passport.

If you applied to vote by mail, the El Paso County Elections Department must receive your mail-in ballot by May 1. If it’s postmarked by 7 p.m. that day, it will be counted as long as the department receives it by 5 p.m. May 2.
