EL PASO, Texas – The Hospitals of Providence East is the first hospital in the El Paso region that offers the Brevera Breast Biopsy System.

The system includes tissue acquisition, real-time imagining, etc.

Dr. Raul Loya, a radiologist at the Hospitals of Providence, said the differences are noticeable.
“We have had really good results. Less complications, less time under compression and less bleeding," he said.

According to medical experts, the system creates a more compassionate experience for patients who are worried about getting a biopsy.

Dr. Loya said the system is making a difference in the lives of patients.

“This system is beneficial to everyone because by doing biopsies faster, we free up resources so we may be able to do 5 biopsies in a day instead of three, so patients with concerns of having breast cancer can get their results faster,” he said.

Other benefits include a faster, more comfortable and less invasive experience.

Additionally, the time of this new technology takes fewer steps which reduces the average time for a biopsy.

He said no other training is involved for those who conduct this procedure.

Those who want more information about this procedure can contact the Breast and Women’s Center East at the Hospitals of Providence.
