LAS CRUCES, New Mexico - Organ Mountain High School Football player Abraham Romero remains in critical condition after collapsing during a game vs Deming on August 26th.

Romero was taken away from the field by an ambulance and transported to University Medical Center in El Paso.

On Saturday, the Organ Mountain High School's Booster Club sent out a post to the public saying, "This is a hard one. Abe has taken a turn for the worse and is in critical condition."

According to the school’s booster club Facebook page, the hospital has allowed teammates and friends to visit Romero in the hospital.

The team and the rest of the the student body have been showing out for football games and participating in fundraisers to support Romero and his family, allowing for a sense of togetherness.

Amy Himelright, the director of academic counseling and behavioral health at Las Cruces public schools said that coming together and forming a bond between the student body are exactly what the students of organ mountain high school need.

"I think due to the age and developmental stage of these students, what we find what feels most supportive to them is to really spend time with one another," said Himelright.

The booster club said it will be up to Romero's family to decide when and how further information on his status is released to the public.
