Ft. Bliss soldiers to help along the border when Title 42 is lifted
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The 93rd Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade will respond to the southwest border when Title 42 is lifted May 11. The Battalion is stationed at Ft. Bliss.
These soldiers will be among the 1,500 active duty service members set to respond to the border ahead of the expected migrant surge. The other service members will be marines coming from Camp Lejuene in North Carolina.
"The specific timeline for deployment is still being determined, however, the initial active duty military personnel will be on the ground on or about May 10, 2023," the United States Northern Command said in a statement Saturday. A number of airmen with the Air Force will also respond to the border.
"Active duty military personnel will provide support with duties including data entry, warehousing support, and additional detection and monitoring support efforts. This military support increases the availability of Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) law enforcement personnel to conduct law enforcement-specific duties," the statement added.
