Fire Crews respond to water main break in West El Paso

UPDATE: (9:02 a.m.) El Paso Water said crews are working to repair an eight-inch water main break in west El Paso.

The utility said customers will likely be without customers for several hours. A water tank is located for residents to use at the Saint Roger's Apartments on the 1700 block of Mesa.

It's unclear how many customers are being impacted.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA)-- According to El Paso Fire Department Officials, a water main break near the UTEP campus has caused a sinkhole. 

The break is near the 1700 block of North Mesa Street, right next to Las Palmas Medical Center. 

The call for this break came in just after 3:30 a.m.

Officials described the main break as "severe" and are warning people to avoid the area for the time being. 

There is no word on when the incident will be cleared up. We will update this story as we learn more.
