Delaware Democrats back Sarah McBride’s bid to become first openly transgender person in US Congress

Associated Press

DOVER, Del. (AP) — Voters in Delaware are deciding the nominees for several political contests, including a closely watched campaign for governor and a potentially historic race for U.S. House. The chief executive of Delaware’s most populous county Matt Meyer has won the Democratic primary for governor, taking advantage of a campaign finance scandal involving his main rival. Democrats also voted in a U.S. House race where State Sen. Sarah McBride won the primary and now has the chance to become the first openly transgender person elected to Congress.
